B11. Supporting Students with Disabilities in an Open Access Environment

Salon 10

In this session, we will discuss the unique challenges in providing assistance to students with disabilities in two year institutions.   Through discussion and examples, we will help participants navigate the complexities of the diverse student population found at community colleges, including dual enrollment, transient and FTIC students.  We will also explore the reasonable accommodations process, with specific emphasis on accommodation requests in online courses and uncommon requests.  Presenters will also engage in discussion on the role of faculty and disability offices in determining the application of accommodations.  Finally, we will discuss the intersectionality of behavior and disability relating to classroom conduct, behavioral standards and behavior intervention/assessment teams.
